Here is another in a series
of our weekly Saturday Sippers! posts.
Can't beat a bloody Mary on a summer day! Our Saturday Sipper this week is an homage to Barnabus Collins from the 70s soap Dark Shadows. He'd love a good Bloody Mary, to be sure. This drink is more like a meal with garnishes like yellow pear tomatoes and celery stalks—spicy, and savory, it's almost like a quick gazpacho. I like to use enough horseradish that it makes my nostrils flair (!). It's imperative, and I cannot stress this enough, that these should be imbibed before noon.
THE BARNABUS COLLINS
1 mini can of V8 juice (low sodium)
1 mini can of Campbell's tomato juice
2 ounces of Kettle One or Absolut lemon vodka
2 tsp. prepared horseradish sauce
couple dashes of Tobasco sauce
½ tsp Worcestershire sauce
¼ of a small clove of garlic, crushed in a garlic press
½ tsp celery seed (not celery salt!)
juice from half a lemon
salt and pepper
Makes 2 biting drinks.

Combine all ingredients, shake in metal bar mixer. Pour into a glass with ice and garnish with celery stalk, lemon wedge (and a long chili pepper and a mini tomato, if you have them). And remember... before noon. Barnabus is watching from the dark shadows...
